A Quick Look at Heart in Focus
Why Heart in Focus?
Every human contends with a struggle going on in his or her heart. Our old self desires to live in this world and be engaged with all it offers. God works in people creating a new self that has a desire to serve him and live for Jesus. This creates a struggle, an actual civil war of the heart, as the Christian determines whom to serve in every decision.
|
Pull of the Old Self Our reason and Old Self are attracted to treasures on earth. This is a strong pull that comes from within that tears down life. |
|
Pull of the New Self God creates a New Self in believers that is attracted to treasures in heaven. This strong pull comes from the gospel of Jesus who gives life that is truly life. |
The Bible passages which serve as a basis for Heart in Focus logo is taken from the words of the Apostle Paul found in Ephesians 4:17, 22 – 24.
So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking ….. put off the old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
The goal of Heart in Focus course is to help participants become faithful in managing what God has given and discover the joy in living for Jesus.
What are the ministry benefits?
Proper stewardship of financial resources lies at the heart of training in Christian discipleship. Failure to train God’s people in financial stewardship often yields to the seductive messages of materialism that is so prevalent in our market society.
The Heart in Focus program can be an asset for any Christian congregation. It may be coordinated with your current curriculum or used as a stand alone initiative for the stewardship training of God’s people. Following are the benefits for the local congregation:
- supports the pastor and staff in what is often a difficult topic to teach
- helps remove money as a barrier or stumbling block in discipleship growth
- guides individuals into a God-honoring management of their resources
- frees members from the bondage of credit and consumer debt
- encourages financial communication among spouses and families
- creates a stronger culture of generosity within the congregation
Contact for Questions?
Hi, I’m Jeff Davis, one of the authors of Heart in Focus. I’m glad that you are learning more about this special program. I always believe it is good to challenge oneself and learn new things each day. Heart in Focus offers a challenge not usually found in today’s resources. It helps the reader to answer, “Who am I?” and “Why am I here on this earth?”
Answers to these questions give our lives purpose and a reason for living. By enrolling in a Heart in Focus course, I believe you will find help in responding better to these questions.
